    Uchiwa MEMORY

ALMA DE LUCE ® draws UCHIWA, a piece to unveil a story of a symbol of Japan, full of elegance and meanings.

It is a fact that Japan is a country full of stories and traditions. From these traditions come the symbols that are in the memory and represent the Japanese throughout the world.

In Japan, the fan became the symbol of life itself for the Japanese. The sticks radiating out from the rivet symbolized the sun’s rays radiating out and supporting life itself in the form of the leaf.

In ancient Japan, the earliest visual depiction of fans dates back to the 6th century D.C., with burial tomb paintings showing drawings of fans. The folding fan was invented in Japan, with date ranging from the 6th to 9th centuries.

They were made by tying fine strips of hinoki (or Japanese cypress) along with yarn. The number of strips of wood varied according to the person's classification. Later, in the sixteenth century, Portuguese traders introduced it in Europe and soon the men and women across the continent adopted it as fashion trend.
