The majestic Matterhorn is the Jewel of the Swiss Alps. Certainly the most famous mountain in Europe, and it looms over the breathtaking Alpine panorama. With triangular shape, like a symmetric pyramid, comes as cragged rock “tooth” ranging into the heavens. Standing alone on the horizon.
This mountain is a magnet for alpinists: aesthetic emblem, mountain with ideal proportions, and rugged rock with magical light. Playing in a sea of clouds and horizontal coloring. The Matterhorn was first climbed on 14 July 1865 by the English climber Edward Whymper.
It was however the last great mountain in the Alps to be climbed, perhaps due to the fears it caused in many climbers. This Switzerland landmark offers a paradise for all nature-lovers looking for peace and quiet.
